What is Melody
A melody is a sequence
of notes that is musically satisfying :a tune
It is the aspect of
musical composition concerned with the arrangement of single notes to form a
satisfying sequence.
It is the principal
part in harmonized music.
A melody
("singing, chanting"), also voice, or line, is a linear succession of
musical tones that the listener perceives as a single entity.
In its most literal
sense, a melody is a combination of pitch and rhythm, while more figuratively,
the term can include successions of other musical elements such as tonal color.
What is Heaven?
According to Oxford
Dictionary, heaven is a place regarded in various religions as abode of God (or
the gods) and the angels, and of the good after death, often traditionally
depicted as being above the sky.
The Bible speaks of
three different heavens. Genesis 1:1 says that God created “the
heavens”—plural. The first heaven is the atmosphere around the earth. In
describing the rain that brought on the Flood of Noah’s time, Genesis 7:11 says
“the windows of heaven were opened.” Commenting on the extent of the water,
verse 19 says “all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered.”
The second heaven is
commonly referred to as “outer space.” Exodus 32:13 is one of many references
to “the stars of heaven.” Stars are not in the skies from which the rain falls,
but in the space beyond our atmosphere. Nehemiah 9:6 also refers to space as
heaven: “You alone are the Lord; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens,
with all their host [the planets and stars].”
A “third heaven” is
mentioned in 2 Corinthians 12:1-4. Paul also called it “Paradise” in verse 4.
That word is from the Greek word for park or garden—not just any park or
garden, but a magnificent one. It’s the same word used in the standard Greek
translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, to mean the Garden of Eden
Revelation 4:2 reveals
that God’s throne is in heaven, but which one? Obviously, God’s throne is not
in the sky where the clouds are and the birds fly—the first heaven. Nor is it
in the visible confines of outer space—the second heaven. Putting this
reference together with what Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians, we discern that the
third heaven, then, must refer to the location of the throne of God.
Although there are
other arguments as to wether there exist about seven levels of heaven, but I
will like us to make reference to the ones itemized above pending further
discussions.
From different
instances in scriptures we see angels and other spirit beings singing in
heaven(Job 38:7,luke 2:13-14,revelation 5:8-11,13,psa 148:2,psa 103:20,rev
7:11)
When saying the Lord’s
prayer we say, “…..thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven…”.
But if we truly want
the realities in heaven to be our realies then it is of utmost important that
we replicate the same atmosphere or Habitat here on earth.
As worshippers it is
expedient that our songs of worship is intentional , intensive and informed by scriptures(the word of God).
There has been records
of people seeing Angels join them even as they worship God.I can imagine such
kind of atmosphere.
An atmosphere that has melodies
from heaven will definitely be associated with heavenly possibilities.
We are in two places at
the same time according to the Bible
1.In Christ (not with
Him but in Him) in heavenly places
(Eph 2:6 “and hath raised us up
together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ ,…………. Eph
1:20-21 “……in heavenly place,far above principality and power …….)
2.On earth (Gen
1:26-31)
This then suggests that
we won’t go to heaven after the rapture but we are already in heaven in Christ
(as Christians),but how do we resonate with what is happening in heaven?
Melodies(Music) among many other tools is one
great way this can be achieved.
There are different
ways this Melodies(permit me to use songs subsequently) that are appropriate to
that in heaven are received(because they
are already available).Remember all that Jesus did here on earth was what He
saw the father doing at the moment(John 5:19-20).So also we should do likewise
because everyone that is perfect shal be as his master(luke 6:40).
In deaut 31:14-31,God instructed moses
to write a song that will be a witness for God against the children of Isreal.I
want to believe that could be the son the angels were singing in
Rev 15:3 “And they were
singing the song of moses the servant of God,and the song of the
lamb, saying,Great and marvelous are thy works,Lord God almighty:just and true
are thy ways, though King of saints.”
Amazing really how
songs could express God’s intentions even here on earth.A lot of peole have
itemized how they usually receive heavenly sounds(melodies).Well I don’t believe
there is one fixed formular for that because God works in mysterious ways.Such
ways includes dreams,Life experiences,Spiritual encounters, etc. But permit me to
just itemize one approach among many others which one can receive(write)
melodies(Songs):
1. Get a general idea of the
topic(theme) you want to write about. If you have a great
idea already, then build off of that.Having an idea at the start makes it a lot
easier.
2. Visit your Bible.look
up verses that resonate most with you.By focusing on Biblical passages or
verses, you will write a sound(song, melody) that is informed by scriptures
and this will keep it grounded in truth.
3. Listen to your pastor.You
can listen to several messages and write about a btopic(theme).Try putting an
emphasized aspect as the most important lines in your song.
4. Consider following a theme or
introducing a message in the song. Will it tell a
story?will it illustrate a journey,or demonstrate a viewpoint?
5. Think about what you’re personally
going through right now(be sincere, honest). This will help
you to connect best with the audience,by writing about how you are feeling.
6. Choose what genre you wish to make
your sound. It should be something that works, that
you enjoy listening to and/or that you want to share with others.
7. Get a Musical instrument(excellent
if can play one) or meet someone who can play while you sing.Although
there are exceptions to this. You can choose to play a random progression for a
while till it sinks into you.Although you can actually sing before playing.
8. Have a sequence in mind.Have
a general order to do things can get your brain working.
9. DO WHAT YOU FEEL LED BY THE HOLY
SPIRIT TO DO.
NOTE:This
does not apply only to songs, you also relates to sounds and different kinds of
melodies.
In
conclusion,I only made an attempt to present an aspect of this broad topic ,”melodies
from heaven”.
There
is so much more to this.Regard this as a seed that opens up different knowledge
and studies,so I recommend you do more research and study on this aspect.God
bless you.
