TOPIC: THE EFFECT OF NEW SONGS AND OLD SONGS
First of all we will have
an understanding of what a new song and an old song is. These two phrases are
combination of two separate words “New” and “Song”.
In defining song, we can
simply say it’s making melodies and rhythms with words. It is a composition of
lyrics and music that is purposeful. The word “New” simply means fresh, pure,
something that has not been in existence. Old will therefore be the opposite of
New.
Combining them together,
new song would mean a fresh composition of lyrics and music. Note that this may
be a literal meaning whereas a new song goes deeper than that. It goes beyond
the newness of lyrical composure, in this context new song means more of a song
producing a fresh meaning/revelation/understanding of the lyrics to a singer and
so we can say an old song can become a new song to you, that is, an old song
(an old lyrical composition) can become more meaningful and produce more light
and revelation of the lyrics in it.
To sing a new song is to
respond to God, alive with the fresh vibrancy of the present. What is new is
now; it is intimate and immediate. A new song also flows from an atmosphere
where God dwells and so he is the centre or root or foundation upon which a new
song springs forth.
There are moments where a
music worship session is going on and a song that one may be familiar with hits
you so hard that it comes forth in all of your expression. The song begins to
unveil you into an experience with the Father that you have never come to know,
or a revelation that you have long hungered for begins to open up to you, now
that’s a perfect explanation of a new song.
HOW DO NEW SONGS COME
ABOUT
From the scriptures we can
ascertain that new songs arose after having triumph and (or) as an anticipation
of victory. (Psalm 40:1-3, Psalm 33:3, 98:1). For a musically inclined person,
it is more or less an involuntary act for you to want to sing when you have won
a battle or challenge. You sing so you can announce your victory. Now when this
victory comes from God, such victory is of course extraordinary such that human
efforts could not have produced. It is the type of victory that gives you JOY
not just happiness. Songs that are produced from such an experience are new
songs.
Moses and the Israelites
sang a new song of victory when God delivered them from the hands of the
Egyptians. (Exodus 15:1-21)
New songs can also emerge
from revelation, which is as a result of intimacy and fellowship with God. He
begins to reveal himself in diverse ways which always comes fresh (New).
New songs will also arise
when we want to express our love towards God……….it goes on and on, bottom line
is God is the centre of every New song.
THE EFFECT OF NEW SONG AND
OLD SONGS
Just like it is when you
have a new clothes or shoes or anything new and you go around with it. It
causes you to look new and brighter so well that people who used to know you
will easily notice something new about you. The same applies to a new
song…...it creates something new for the person who sings the new song a
listener may not understand but the singer sure does.
New songs brings you into
deeper revelation…
generally, new songs birth
new visions, revelations, dreams, miracles, deliverance, breakthroughs, success
etc…. It just makes every other thing in your life new.
Old songs may not have any
effect until it is renewed in the heart of a singer….
CONCLUSION
A new song can only be
sung by one who has a relationship with God, knowing that he is a spirit and
must worship him in spirit and truth. Only a heart of worship can sing a new
song. Singing a new song can occur at any time so long as it’s in worship to
God, with a pure and open heart, that is where the new songs flow.
True worshippers always
sing new songs!
