DECISION

DECISION
Friend, decision does not stop at just the act of making up your mind about something. The trait of resoluteness as evidenced by firmness of character or purpose is also a decision.
Our decisions does not only shape our destiny, it determine what we get from God per time. And I want to encourage you today not to make a permanent decision on temporary problem like Esau did in the passage of the scripture above, forgetting the future benefits that comes with being a "firstborn".
One day, Jacob was cooking a meal. Esau came back from the field, and was very hungry. He said to Jacob ‘Quick let me have some of that red food! I am very hungry.’ (That is also why he was called Edom. Edom means red.)
Jacob said, ‘You must first sell me your birthright.' Esau said ‘Look I am going to die now. _What good is my birthright to me?’_
Now, in the Old Testament, the oldest son had the birthright. He would be the leader of his family when his father died. And he would get two parts of the things that had belonged to his father.
It's obvious that Esau is not thinking about what will happen in the future. He is only thinking of what he can have now, and that's a bad decision.
‘I am going to die’, Esau said. But of a truth, Esau is not going to die. He just means that he has not eaten for some days. He feels very hungry and wants the food.
The exchange was legally done, stamped with swearing by Esau. Jacob now had the birthright. Jacob is the younger son. Jacob will receive God’s promise that he made with Abraham. This promise passed on to Isaac. When Isaac dies, it will pass to Jacob. This is what God told Rebekah in verse 23. In Old Testament times, the youngest son would always be like a servant to the oldest son. But this time, God chose the youngest son to be master over the oldest son.
Birthright does not only have to do with position in the family and the material benefits that comes with it. It is also about taking charge, properly representing God in a place, possessing the gate of your enemies and the enemies of God and living with the values and lifestyle of the kingdom of God. Those are part of your birthright in Christ from God who is your true father.
"Let every decision you make have eternal value. Anything outside the will of God is a bad decision and it will sink you".
